Operating the Venturi Client

Normal Operation

When you launch a new page in your Internet browser and the Venturi  is spinning in your finder window; Venturi is operating normally.

NOTE: If you are fetching a Web page that is already in the browser's cache, no spinning will occur.

Text Box: Venturi Menu

Performance

After opening the Venturi  menu, which is accessible from the Finder window, you will see four icons that represent the relationship between speed and image quality.

When browsing with higher performance levels selected, you will notice that the quality of Web page graphics is reduced to allow the pages to load faster.  If you want to view the original quality of an image, you can perform a forced refresh, which forces the Web page to reload without compressing the images.

Refresh/reload your page according to your browser and operating system:

§          Reloading Images with Internet Explorer
Hold down the "Option" key, then click the  [Refresh] icon.

§          Reloading Images with Netscape
Hold down the "Shift" key, then click the  [Reload] icon.

Bypassing Venturi

To bypass the Venturi client temporarily, click “Turn Venturi Off" within the Venturi menu. Once this is done, several options will no longer be available and the setting name will appear as “Turn Venturi On".

1) Reboot System

2) Switch User

3) Venturi Client is Manually Restarted (from the "Utilities/Venturi" folder)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Why isn't the spinning?

A.  Check to ensure you've configured your proxies correctly (review Configuring the Venturi Client).  If your
proxies are configured correctly and your V still is not spinning, please contact your system administrator.

Q.  What does it mean when the V in my system tray turns gray?

A.  The gray V icon appears when the user turns Venturi OFF, or the product falls Bypass Mode.  Venturi falls into bypass mode when the application determines that optimization is not necessary, or when a Venturi Server is unavailable (Venturi will check for an available server every 10 seconds).

NOTE: Rolling over this icon with your cursor displays a "Venturi is OFF" tool tip.
