Wireless Industry Veterans to Expand Asian and North
American Sales Operations
New Sales Vice Presidents
Help Venturi Meet the Fast-Growing Global Demand for
its Broadband Optimization Solutions for Multimedia
Handsets and Wireless Laptops
SUNNYVALE, Calif., December 19,
2005-Venturi Wireless, a global provider of 3G
mobile optimization solutions, today announced the
appointment of three wireless industry veterans to
its sales team. Rich Conlon will join Venturi Wireless
as the company's vice president of worldwide sales
and will report to Bret Sewell, Venturi's president
and CEO. Venturi has also hired Jim Goodman, vice
president of North American sales, and D.K. Sappington,
vice president of Asia/Pacific sales. Both will report
to Conlon.
The new sales vice presidents are joining the company
with the recent announcement of its new optimization
suite for consumer applications and handsets. Leveraging
their significant carrier sales experience at Lucent
Technologies, QUALCOMM Inc., and AT&T, Conlon,
Goodman and Sappington will play an integral role
in expanding Venturi's existing sales teams in North
America and Asia/Pacific. Venturi expects to increase
its focus on the Asia/Pacific market, including Japan,
South Korea, and China, in 2006. According to a report
published in Informa Telecoms & Media, between
2006 and 2010 there will be 1.18 billion new mobile
subscribers worldwide, and almost half will be in
the Asia/Pacific market.
"Asia has been at the cutting edge of wireless
data advancements for some time, and a large percentage
of new 3G mobile data subscribers will originate there.
From an innovation and market opportunity perspective,
Asia is a critical region for us," said Sewell.
"The U.S. is also experiencing rapid growth in
advanced mobile data services. All three major U.S.
wireless carriers have now deployed 3G networks and
are aggressively launching new rich-media consumer
services for handsets. These services will benefit
tremendously from our wireless optimization solution.
Rich, Jim, and D.K understand carrier needs and will
be instrumental in creating a world-class sales organization
that will makeVenturi's solution the top choice of
mobile service providers worldwide."
Conlon, who will oversee worldwide sales, has more
than 27 years of telecommunications experience, including
13 years of experience in wireless products and services
sales management. Conlon spent 20 years at Lucent
Technologies and the Bell System in senior sales management
and sales training roles, covering a broad spectrum
of products and services. While at Lucent, he was
responsible for building the sales team that recaptured
AT&T Wireless's PCS business. Recently, Conlon
served as vice president of sales for Core Mobility,
which focused on device management and differentiation
for wireless carriers. Before joining Core, he was
vice president of worldwide sales at Superconductor
Technologies, the global leader in high-temperature
superconducting (HTS) products for wireless voice
and data applications.
Goodman will head North American carrier sales, including
sales to Verizon Wireless, which is a long-time Venturi
customer. Goodman has a strong telecommunications
background, with more than 30 years of experience
in sales and sales management to the carrier market.
He spent much of his career at AT&T and Lucent
Technologies. At Lucent, he built and led the sales
team that developed the Sprint PCS business, which
has continued to generate a large, sustainable revenue
stream for Lucent.
Sappington will be responsible for sales in the Asia/Pacific
region. He has joined Venturi from QUALCOMM, where
he was director of business development (carrier operations)
for Asia. He was also responsible for the introduction
of CDMA test tools into China. Sappington has more
than 20 years of experience in international business
development and project management, as well as in
test and integration engineering.
